NEWPORT – John Mark Wentworth, 98, died February 24, 2013 at the U.S. V.A. Hospital in Togus.
He was born February 3, 1915 in Newport, a son of Mark and Ina (Young) Wentworth. He graduated from Newport High School and served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
Upon returning home he worked for his father at Wentworth’s Garage in Newport. After the garage was sold he worked at Edwards Corporation in Pittsfield and later at the Commisary at the Air National Guard base in Bangor.
He was a member of the Barrows-Skidgel American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Knights of Pythias Lodge.
He is survived by a cousin, Frances Stone of Dixmont, and his conservator, Joyce Nelson of Newport.
A spring graveside committal and funeral service will be held at the family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Newport, at a time to be announced. The Rev. Ellen Bridge will officiate.
