DEXTER - Chauncey W. Hoskins, 68, died unexpectedly March 16, 2011 at his residence. He was born June 20, 1942 in Milo, a son of Carl and Alyce (Mitchell) Hoskins. Chauncey graduated from Milo High School, Class of 1960, and Husson College, Class of 1965. He taught business education at Dexter Regional High School, retiring in 2002, where he served as chairman of the business department and head of the school scholarship committee. Chauncey was named teacher of the year in 1986 and in 2001, the students dedicated the year book to him. He was a past president of the Business Association of Maine, and was a member of the Masons. Chauncey remained active in the retired teachers associations, and continued to serve on several scholarship committees. He also enjoyed summers at his camp on Center Pond.
He is survived by his son, James C. Hoskins of Portland; a brother , Dennis and wife Nancy Hoskins of Dexter; sisters, Lucy Goodwin of Orono, Constance and husband Jerome Bragdon of Peru, Chrystie and husband Roger Shepherdson of Oneonta, NY; a special aunt, Alberta Rich of Charleston; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Hoskins; and an infant sister, Amy Hoskins.
A celebration of his life will be held in the summer at his camp on Center Pond. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Lyme and Tick-borne Diseases Research Center, Columbia University, Attention Barbara Strobino, PhD, 1051 Riverside Drive, Unit 69, New York, NY 10032. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter.
