Halver Leslie Badger Obituary (1918

Halver L. Badger HARTLAND - Halver Leslie Badger, 98, went to be with the Lord November 14, 2016. He was born May 17, 1918 in St. Albans, a son of Earl and Hattie (Stevens) Badger. He graduated from N. H. Fay High School in Dexter and Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield. He was active in sports, especially in football and baseball. He married the former Maxine Tapley in 1940. They moved to Palmyra and belonged to the Union Church and Grange. Halver served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a 25 year member of the St. Albans Grange. They moved to Pittsfield in 1951 where he worked at Northeast Shoe Company. Halver was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Fish and Game Club. He was instrumental in the creation of the Maine Air Credit Union where he served as its president for two years and was on the Credit Committee, Supervisory Committee, and Chairman of the Board of Directors. They moved to Hartland in 1969 and worked at Dexter Shoe Company. He also helped to form the Dexter Credit Union, where he served as vice president, member of the Credit Committee, and the Board of Directors. He later received a degree in financial counseling and was honored with a plaque for his many years as a credit union officer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartland serving many years as a trustee and usher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and his hobbies taking care of bees and making maple syrup, both of which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. He is survived by 3 sons, Roderick Badger and Keith (Brenda Dore) Badger, all of Hartland; and Kermit (Darlene) Badger of St. Albans; daughter in law Sherrie (Saum) Badger of Enterprise, Alabama; several grandchildren; great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Maxine, a son Adrian, a brother Darrell, his grandson Michael, brothers in law Keith Tapley and the Rev. Bert Tapley, sister in law Kay Tapley and daughter in law Barbara (Wade) Badger. There will be no visitation at his request. Because of scheduling conflicts with the grandchildren, graveside committal services will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland, in the spring of 2017.
