CAMBRIDGE- Helen Louise (Snow) Cookson, 74, passed away December 3, 2010, surrounded by her devoted family, at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born September 15, 1936, in Oakland, daughter of Lyman and Bertha (Trask) Snow.\n\nHelen loved spending time with her family and friends, bragging about her grandchildren, playing her guitar, babysitting, camping, and playing cards with close friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed motorcycling, hunting, fishing, gardening, and genealogy. She worked for many years and had many friends at Dexter Shoe Company.\n\nShe is survived by her husband of 49 years, Alston R. Cookson Sr.; two sons, Alston R. "Rusty" Cookson Jr. and his wife Robin K., and Keith A. Cookson and his wife April J. all of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Nathan, and Kaitlin Cookson; a step-grandson, Christopher S. Dunnell; two step-great grandchildren, Brannen and Kaelyn Dunnell; a special sister, Violet L. Shields and her husband, Merle K., of Mercer, who they did many things with over the years, a sister, Linda Snow of Bangor; and a brother, Lyman L. Snow and his wife, Carol, of Wayne; many special nieces, nephews, and friends. \n\nShe was predeceased by her parents; and three brothers, David, Robert, and Donald.\n\nFuneral services will be held 1 PM, Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter, with Pastor Ray Beless officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, from 10 AM until the time of the service. \n\nA gathering of family and friends will be held at Alston and Helen's home in Cambridge following the funeral. Burial will be held in the spring at the family's convenience. \n\nSpecial thanks to the staff at Mayo Regional Hospital for their kindness to Helen and her family at a difficult time. \n\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, Maine 04086.
