DEXTER - Joan C. Mayo, 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday March 25, 2015, at home after a long courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving daughter and granddaughter. \n\nJoan was born December 26, 1932, in Weld, Maine, a daughter of Charles and Stella (Plummer) Cook. After moving to Wilton with her family, she attended and graduated from Wilton Academy, Class of 1950. Joan married the love of her life Wayne F. Mayo in 1951. Joan was a housewife and a loving mother. Over the years they were blessed with two amazing children, Pamela Dawn Mayo and Gary Lee Mayo. They lived 9 years in Jay and about four years in Norridgewock before finally moving to Dexter, where they resided for the rest of their lives and raised their family. \n\nJoan in her earlier days was an avid outdoorsman. She loved hunting, fishing, camping and skiing with her family. She was an avid golfer, spent many hours on the Dexter golf course, and belonged to the Dexter women's golf club. \n\nJoan's favorite time of year was spring because she loved to garden and get things ready to plant. She spent many years keeping her flower gardens beautiful and took pride in her vegetable garden. She loved to sit in the kitchen doing crossword puzzles, watch the birds from her kitchen window, and loved her furry companions Toby and Tess. \n\nJoan is survived by her sister, Eleanor and brother in law Linwood Burtchell of Wilton; daughter, Pamela M. Annis and husband Roger Annis of Harmony; grandchildren Nichole and Joshua Annis of Harmony; and great grandchildren Alexis, Kayli, Hunter, Tyler, and Brayden, all of Harmony. \n\nJoan was predeceased by her parents Charles and Stella Cook, her husband Wayne F. Mayo, and her son Gary Lee Mayo. \n\nNo services will be held at this time.
