Obituary

NEWPORT - Roger Albert Dow, 63, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday September 18, 2010 into the arms of his Lord and Savior, after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer. He never lost his sense of humor or wit during the entire time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was born September 4, 1947 in Waterville a son of Lewis and Priscilla "Tillie" (Waning) Dow of Dixmont. He attended grade school in Dixmont and graduated from Hermon High School in 1967. He joined the U. S. Naval Reserve after graduation serving on the USS Boxer, stationed at Norfolk, VA and Cuba. He enjoyed many activities throughout his life, including board games, card games, fishing, hunting, swimming, bowling, dancing and most of all his church activities. His working career began by helping his father with his carpentry and siding business building and working with his hands. He became a millwright, working as a member of Union #621 for 25 years and with Cianbro Corporation for 11 1/2 years. He married his true soul mate Marie (Gould) Dunton in 1984 and spent their years happily together participating in everything from softball to missionary work, always together showing their love for one another and for all of God's children. He became a born again Christian in 1990 and was proud to be who he was in the Lord, his life being a testimony to all who knew him. Roger was predeceased by his parents; a sister Rebecca "Becky" Dow; a granddaughter Kathleen Marie Dukes; as well as many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marie of Newport; a son Douglas A. Dunton of Albuquerque, NM; daughters Jeanne (Dunton) Dukes of Marietta, GA, Margaret (Dunton) and husband Thomas Wells of Belfast, and Patricia Dunton of Plymouth; a sister Rita and husband Delphis Belliveau of Clinton; a brother Robert "Bobby" Dow of Saco; brothers-in-law Reginald and wife Oriella Gould of Scarborough, Charles and wife Allison "Sally" Gould of Hampden; sisters-in-law Leah Foster of Newburgh, Norma Binan of Hampden, Barbara Dolliver of Etna, special sister-in-law and friend Elinor Bucklin of Hampden; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, September 25th at the Winnecook Christian Church, 3 Chapel Lane (on the Horseback Road) , Burnham, with Pastor Obie Walker and the Rev. Michael Pike officiating. Visiting hours will be held noon until the time of the service. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service. Burial will be in the family lot, Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
