NEWPORT - Stan Engstrom, 75, died August 2, 2017 at his residence. \n\nHe was born April 28, 1942 in Hampden, a son of Archie and Ruth (Getchell) Engstrom. Stan served in the U. S. Army from 1960 to 1963, working in Germany as a mechanic.\n\nStan was a well known self-employed handyman in the area with his son Tinker. They also had a scrap metal business. Stan and Tinker also drove race cars at the Unity Dirt Track from 1992 to 2003. Stan volunteered at the Newport Salvation Army often going in to help several times a day. He loved traveling and camping, going to California and Mexico among other locations. He was a fan of mud runs, coffee, chocolate milk and sweets.\n\nHe is survived by his sons, Stanley "Tinker", Jr. and wife Megan, Aaron and girlfriend Kim, all of Newport; Randy and girlfriend Tina of Winterport, Archie and wife Julie of Hartland; a special cousin Kala and husband Jack Ferris of Dexter; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his significant other Anna; a step son, Shawn Engstrom of Dixmont; a sister Judy and husband Raymond Eldridge of Stetson.\n\nHe was predeceased by his parents, son LeRoy, wife Jean and brothers, Donald and Richard.\n\nThere will be no services at this time. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
