NEWPORT - Stefan "Dido" Bidanec, 72, achieved peace while under the loving care of the staff at Sebasticook Valley Hospital August 16, 2012. He was born December 2, 1939 in Poltawa, Ukraine, a son of Sergei and Natalia (Bohomil) Bidanec. His family emmigrated to Germany where Stefan graduated from high school. He joined the U. S. Army in 1961 and became a U. S. citizen. \n\nHe was a member of AmVets, the Lions Club, and enjoyed NASCAR, football and cooking. Stefan was an avid fisherman, gardener, and enjoyed playing with his grandson and teaching him to speak Ukranian. He worked for many years for the City of Augusta and retired from the Lithgow Library. He was very proud of his Ukranian heritage. \n\nHe is survived by a daughter, Tatiana and husband Jay Carsley of Newport; a brother, Mekola and wife Alexandra of Palm Coast, Florida; a sister, Helen and husband Walter of Chelsea; a grandson, Aleksander "Sasha" Carsley; many nieces and nephews, and his dog Princess. He will also be remembered by Tatiana's mother, Stephanie Bidanec of Auburn.\n\nGraveside committal services will be held 11 A. M. Monday August 20th at Chelsea Heights Cemetery, Chelsea, with the Rev. Leonard Reiss officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
